Belgian Forces Intercept Russian Shadow Fleet Oil Tanker
(MENAFN) The Belgian army boards a suspected Russian shadow fleet oil tanker on Saturday night, as stated by reports. Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken announces that the vessel is now being escorted to the port of Zeebrugge for seizure.
Francken writes on X: "Over the past few hours, our armed forces, with the support of the French Defence, have boarded an oil tanker belonging to the Russian shadow fleet. The vessel is currently being escorted to the port of Zeebrugge, where it will be seized." He describes the mission, called “Operation Blue Intruder,” as carried out "by a team of exceptionally brave service members."
French President Emmanuel Macron praises the operation on X, noting that French Navy helicopters assisted Belgian forces in boarding the tanker. He calls it "a major blow to the shadow fleet" and reiterates Europe’s commitment to cutting off funding sources for Russia’s military actions in Ukraine through strict enforcement of international sanctions.
