Turkey Raises Maritime Security Level for Ships in Strait of Hormuz

(MENAFN) Türkiye’s General Directorate of Maritime Affairs announces on Sunday that security measures for Turkish-flagged vessels in the Strait of Hormuz have been raised to Level 3, following reports of radio messages claiming that Iran has restricted ship passages through the strategic waterway, according to statements cited by reports.

The directorate advises, “It is important to follow navigation announcements in the region and, if necessary, contact the Main Search and Rescue Coordination Center (AAKKM),” emphasizing vigilance for vessels operating in the area.

The move comes after a joint US and Israeli strike on Iran on Saturday, which prompted Tehran to conduct retaliatory missile and drone attacks. Iran confirms on Sunday the deaths of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior officials in the strikes.
