Mongolia Forecasts Dangerous Blizzards, Dust Storms, High Winds
(MENAFN) Authorities in Mongolia have released an alert cautioning residents about incoming blizzards, powerful winds and dust storms that are likely to significantly reduce visibility in several parts of the country. The warning was issued Sunday by the national meteorological and environmental monitoring agency, according to reports.
Weather officials indicated that snowstorms are expected to affect the eastern provinces of Khentii, Sukhbaatar and Dornod, in addition to the central province of Tuv, over the coming three days. At the same time, southern areas in the Gobi region — including Umnugovi and Dornogovi — are forecast to experience sweeping dust storms accompanied by strong winds.
Average wind speeds are projected to range between 18 and 24 meters per second, according to the monitoring agency.
The agency advised citizens to exercise heightened caution, especially nomadic herders and motorists who could face increased risks due to deteriorating weather conditions.
Mongolia is known for its extreme continental climate, where spring often brings intense winds, dust storms and heavy snowfall.
The warning follows a recent tragedy in late February, when two nomadic herders died after being caught in a blizzard while looking after their livestock in Khalkhgol soum of Dornod Province, as stated by reports.
