Türkiye Conquers Serbia in FIBA World Cup Qualifiers

(MENAFN) Türkiye held off a spirited Serbian comeback to claim an 82-78 road victory Friday at the Aleksandar Nikolic Hall, maintaining their perfect record atop Group C in the FIBA 2027 World Cup European Qualifiers.

The win extended Türkiye's unbeaten run to three straight victories, while Serbia absorbed their first defeat of the qualifying campaign.

Türkiye seized control early, engineering a dominant 10-0 burst in the fifth minute to close out the opening quarter 22-13. The visitors continued to pile on the pressure through the first half, leading 45-31 at the break before Serbia clawed their way back to trail 57-54 heading into the fourth quarter.

The hosts briefly turned the contest on its head, seizing their first lead of the night at 73-72 with just 1 minute and 41 seconds remaining — threatening one of the night's most dramatic reversals. But Türkiye refused to yield. Forward Tarık Biberovic answered the moment with a decisive three-pointer to reclaim the lead, and the visitors locked down the advantage through the final possessions to seal the win.

Biberovic paced Türkiye with a game-high 22 points, while veteran Cedi Osman chipped in 16 in a composed road performance. For Serbia, Bogoljub Markovic led all home scorers with 19 points, supported by Ognjen Dobric's 17-point effort — ultimately not enough to prevent a first qualifying loss.
