UN Relief Chief Urges Civilian Protection Amid US-Israel Attacks
(MENAFN) Tom Fletcher stated Saturday that UN humanitarian teams are ready to respond to the impacts of ongoing strikes in the Middle East.
Writing on the US-based social media platform X, Fletcher emphasized, “In close touch today with our humanitarian teams across Middle East - ready to respond to humanitarian impact of strikes swiftly and effectively. Civilians must be protected.”
The remarks come as United States and Israel launched a major military operation against Iran on Saturday, described by President Donald Trump as aimed at degrading Tehran’s military capabilities and neutralizing what Washington calls a nuclear threat. Trump also encouraged Iranians to “take over your government” once the strikes conclude.
In response, Iran targeted Israel with drones and missiles and struck US military facilities in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar.
