Trump Claims US-Israeli Strikes Make Diplomacy with Iran ‘Much Easier’

(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Saturday night that achieving a diplomatic solution in Iran remains possible and is “much easier now” following U.S.-Israeli strikes and the reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

“Much easier now than it was a day ago, obviously,” Trump told a news outlet in a phone interview, noting that the attacks have been effective and could open the door to diplomacy.

He added that “there are some good candidates” to lead Iran after Khamenei’s death, though he did not provide further details.

Regarding Iran’s retaliatory measures, Trump remarked, “It's what we expected.” He also commented, “We thought it'd be double. Thus far, it's been less than we thought.”

Earlier on Saturday, following the announcement of Khamenei’s death, Trump said that the ongoing military campaign against Iran would persist. “The heavy and pinpoint bombing, however, will continue, uninterrupted throughout the week or, as long as necessary,” he stated in a social media post.
