European Airlines Suspend Middle East Flights Amid Rising Tension

(MENAFN) Several major European carriers announced cancellations and suspensions of flights to destinations across the Middle East after the United States and Israel carried out attacks on Iran on Saturday.

Air France said it had canceled flights to and from Tel Aviv, Beirut, Dubai, and Riyadh, extending the suspension of services to Tel Aviv through Sunday, according to reports.

Germany’s Lufthansa suspended flights to Tel Aviv, Beirut, Amman, Erbil, and Tehran until March 7, while Dutch carrier KLM paused flights between Amsterdam and Tel Aviv until March 1.

British Airways offered flexibility for travelers on routes between London Heathrow and Abu Dhabi, Amman, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, or Tel Aviv, allowing free changes or refunds for travel through March 6.

Norwegian airline temporarily suspended flights to and from Dubai until March 4, while Poland’s LOT canceled all flights to and from Tel Aviv until March 3.

Italy’s ITA Airways announced it would suspend flights to and from Tel Aviv until March 7. The airline also said it would avoid airspace over Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, and Iran until the same date, and suspend flights to and from Dubai until March 1 for operational reasons.

The flight disruptions follow Israel’s early Saturday “preemptive” strike against Iran, dubbed “Lion’s Roar,” which prompted the country to declare a “special and immediate” state of emergency.

US President Donald Trump later described the strikes as “major combat operations” intended to “protect the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime.”
