US-Israeli Strikes Kill Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei

(MENAFN) Iran’s state broadcaster announced on Sunday that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had been killed in the aftermath of joint US-Israeli airstrikes.

No further explanation was offered regarding how the incident unfolded or the precise conditions surrounding his death.

According to official announcements, the country has entered a 40-day period of national mourning.

A statement from the Supreme National Security Council said Khamenei was killed inside his office early Saturday, adding that his death would signal the start of a “great uprising against the tyrants of the world.”

Meanwhile, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps pledged retaliation, declaring it would “decisively avenge” Khamenei’s killing. The force emphasized that “the hand of revenge of the Iranian people will not let go of the killers of the Imam.”

In its message, the Guard described martyrdom in the service of Islam and “Greater Iran” as a form of triumph and closeness to the ultimate objective. It further asserted that Khamenei’s mission “will not stop after his martyrdom, but will continue with strength and grandeur.”

The statement also called on citizens from all sectors to participate in national defense rallies as a display of solidarity and unity in the face of what it referred to as “the enemies of the nation and terrorists.” Officials said the assassination would only strengthen public resolve to press forward along what they characterized as Khamenei’s guiding path.

In the United States, President Donald Trump reacted on his social media platform Truth Social, stating that Khamenei was “dead.”

“Khamenei, one of the most evil people in History, is dead,” Trump wrote.
