Lightning Strikes Injure Three in Western Australia

(MENAFN) Three people, among them two teenage girls, were rushed to hospital after separate lightning strikes tore through Western Australia's capital on Thursday morning, triggering widespread transport disruptions and knocking out power to thousands of homes.

Emergency crews were first dispatched to Perth's northern suburbs shortly after 8:30 a.m., following reports that a man in his 70s had been struck. Paramedics treated him at the scene before transferring him to hospital in a serious but non-life-threatening condition.

Less than two hours later, at approximately 10:10 a.m., ambulances were called to a school in Perth's outer east, where two teenage girls had been hit by lightning. Both sustained injuries not considered life-threatening and were transported to separate medical facilities for treatment.

The ferocious morning storm extended well beyond its human toll. Several train lines across Perth were forced to shut down amid the severe weather, while a blackout triggered by the strikes left around 3,000 homes without power.
