Turkey, Syria Seek to Boost Trade Through New Mechanism

(MENAFN) Türkiye and Syria plan to enhance bilateral trade through a new joint framework in the near future, as stated by reports.

Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat spoke on Wednesday with Kuteybe Ahmed Bedevi, head of the Syrian General Administration of Border Crossings and Customs, and Syrian Economy and Industry Minister Nidal al-Shaar, sharing updates on cooperation in customs and trade.

Bolat said on social media that the discussions reviewed ways to improve and speed up mutual trade processes, focusing on modernizing and expanding customs gates and accelerating transit between the two nations.

Both sides agreed to convene the first meeting of the Türkiye-Syria Joint Customs Committee as soon as possible, following an initial agreement signed last December. Strengthening logistics networks is expected to enhance regional connectivity by leveraging momentum from Syria’s new administration.

Bolat and Shaar also explored ways to boost investment ties and the total trade volume, which reached $3.7 billion last year. They agreed to hold the Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) meeting in the spring and to organize a comprehensive business and investment forum alongside it.

“Türkiye will continue its efforts to increase trade and strengthen bilateral partnerships with Syria,” Bolat emphasized.
