Oman Pledges Support for US-Iran Nuclear Dialogue

(MENAFN) Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi affirmed his country’s commitment to backing and facilitating the ongoing discussions between the United States and Iran aimed at finding a workable solution for Tehran’s nuclear program.

He made the comments during a meeting in Geneva on Wednesday with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, just ahead of a new round of indirect nuclear negotiations between the two nations.

As stated by reports, the Omani Foreign Ministry noted on social media that the talks focused on the perspectives and proposals Iran intends to present to help secure a nuclear agreement, building upon the “guiding principles” agreed during the previous Geneva discussions.

Albusaidi is also scheduled to meet with the US negotiation team to relay Iran’s positions and to hear the proposals and ideas coming from Washington, the ministry added.

Following the February 17 round of talks, both sides expressed optimism, claiming they had reached agreement on “guiding principles” to guide a potential deal.

These indirect negotiations occur amid a significant US military buildup in the Persian Gulf, while Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has conducted multiple military drills in preparation for a possible conflict.
