Russia Accuses UK, France of Conspiring to Give Ukraine Nuclear Bomb

(MENAFN) Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) leveled explosive allegations on Tuesday, claiming that Britain and France are actively conspiring to equip Ukraine with a nuclear weapon — a charge that threatens to dramatically escalate diplomatic tensions across Europe.

In a formal statement, the SVR asserted that London and Paris believe arming Kyiv with nuclear capabilities would shift the balance of power in ongoing conflict negotiations in Ukraine's favor.

"It is believed that Ukraine needs to be supplied with a 'wonder weapon.' Kyiv will be able to claim more favorable terms for ending hostilities if it possesses an atomic bomb, or at least a so-called 'dirty' bomb," the statement read.

The SVR notably singled out Berlin for stepping back from the alleged scheme, pointing out that Germany "wisely refused to participate in this dangerous adventure."

According to the Russian intelligence agency, both London and Paris are currently working through the logistical and technical hurdles of delivering such weapons and their associated delivery systems to Ukrainian forces.

"We are talking about the covert transfer to Ukraine of European components, equipment, and technologies in this area. One option being considered is the French compact TN75 warhead for the M51.1 submarine-launched ballistic missile," the statement said.

The SVR further warned that the alleged operation constitutes a flagrant breach of international law, specifically citing the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, and cautioned that the plan risks unraveling the entire global non-proliferation framework.

"The British and French are aware that their plans imply a gross violation of international law," the agency stressed, adding that the two nations are attempting to obscure their involvement by engineering a cover story.

"In this regard, the main efforts of Westerners are focused on making the emergence of nuclear weapons in Kyiv appear as the result of development by the Ukrainians themselves," the statement added.

The SVR did not hold back in its condemnation of British and French leadership, accusing both governments of recklessness and delusion.

"Everything secret inevitably becomes apparent. In the military, political, and diplomatic circles of Great Britain and France, there are many sensible people who understand the danger that the reckless actions of their leaders pose to the entire world," it stressed, further asserting that Paris and London had "lost sense of reality" and "hope to avoid responsibility in vain."

In the wake of the SVR's bombshell allegations, Russia's upper legislative chamber, the Federation Council, issued an urgent call to parliamentarians in London and Paris, as well as international watchdog organizations, demanding a full investigation into Britain and France's purported intentions to transfer nuclear explosive devices to Kyiv.
