CIA Appeals for Iranian Sources as US-Iran Tensions Escalate
(MENAFN) The United States’ premier intelligence agency has released a public appeal aimed at recruiting informants inside Iran, offering detailed guidance on how to establish secure communication channels as friction between Washington and Tehran intensifies.
In a two-minute video distributed Tuesday, the Central Intelligence Agency outlined technical steps for safely reaching out. The message advises prospective contacts to rely on virtual private networks and the Tor network, while cautioning against the use of workplace computers or office telephones to avoid detection.
“The Central Intelligence Agency can hear your voice and wants to help you,” the agency stated in the Farsi-language video, which was shared across platforms including X, Instagram, and YouTube.
The outreach effort unfolds against the backdrop of an expanded American military posture in the Middle East. Recent weeks have seen the deployment of two aircraft carrier strike groups along with additional air assets to the region, according to reports.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump has issued renewed warnings toward Tehran, declaring on Monday that Iran would face a “very bad day” if it fails to accept his proposed terms for an agreement concerning its nuclear program.
Diplomatic efforts are also continuing. Indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran—facilitated by Oman—are set to resume in Geneva on Thursday. Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, has said a nuclear deal remains “within reach,” but emphasized that Tehran’s missile capabilities constitute a “red line” and are “strictly non-negotiable.” Iranian officials continue to assert that the country’s nuclear activities serve exclusively civilian purposes.
The intelligence agency has previously launched comparable outreach campaigns targeting other countries, issuing recruitment messages in Mandarin, Korean, and Russian as part of its broader global operations.
