Snowball Attack on NYPD Officers Draws Commissioner’s Condemnation
(MENAFN) New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch spoke out Monday after videos surfaced showing NYPD officers being hit by snowballs from a large group in Washington Square Park.
The footage depicts what started as a mass winter gathering following blizzard-like conditions but escalated into several officers being struck by snowballs. Online videos show people throwing snowballs directly at uniformed officers present in the park.
“The NYPD is aware of certain videos taken earlier today in Washington Square Park showing individuals attacking cops. I want to be very clear: The behavior depicted is disgraceful, and it is criminal,” Tisch said.
She added that detectives have launched an investigation into the incident to identify those responsible and determine the appropriate legal response.
