UK Gov't Source: No Retaliation Yet Over US 15 Pct Tariff

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) LONDON, Feb 23 (KUNA) -- The British government will not be seeking retaliatory measures yet against the recently announced 15 percent tariffs by US President Donald Trump, said a source at 10 Downing Street.
A spokesman for the office of Prime Minister Keir Starmer revealed that UK and US officials were holding discussions with the ramifications of Trump's decision remain still unknown, but certain to have an impact.
Asked about the UK government's plans regarding the US tariffs, the spokesman said, "Our approach to the US has always been pragmatic."
"We continue to have productive conversations with them.. and those discussions are happening at all levels, but nothing is off the table at this stage," the spokesman added.
The spokesman went on to say, "Industry doesn't want to see a trade war where both sides keep escalating the situation, and that's why our focus is on constructive engagement with our US counterparts to retain the UK's competitive advantage."
The US Supreme Court ruled that the 10 percent tariffs imposed by the President was "unlawful", leading Trump to announce a global tariff of 15 percent under different legislation. (end)
