Trump Considers Targeted Army Attack Against Iran

(MENAFN) President Donald Trump is reportedly weighing a targeted military strike against Iran and could pursue broader measures aimed at toppling the country’s leadership if diplomatic efforts prove unsuccessful, according to reports citing US officials familiar with internal deliberations.

Trump has indicated to advisers that he may consider wider military action in the coming months if negotiations and any initial strike do not persuade Tehran to halt its nuclear program.

US and Iranian negotiators are scheduled to meet Thursday in Geneva for what officials describe as last-ditch talks to prevent military escalation. Earlier rounds took place on February 6 in Muscat and February 17 in Geneva, with a third session planned for February 26 in Switzerland.

The reports suggest Trump is leaning toward a limited strike in the coming days to signal to Iranian leaders the need to abandon nuclear weapons development. Potential targets include the headquarters of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, nuclear facilities, and parts of the country’s ballistic missile infrastructure.

Officials also noted that if these measures fail, Trump may consider a larger-scale military operation later this year aimed at removing Iran’s leadership.
