Jodie Avery

A/Prof Jodie Avery, is an Epidemiologist and Public Health researcher with a background in Medical Radiations, Psychology and Social Sciences. A long history of developing research policy partnerships and evaluation, is evidence by >25 commissioned government reports in diverse areas, impacting policy changes through SA Health, SAHMRI and as Vice President, SA Branch, Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA). An expert in systematic review methodology, she teaches this and public health, medical and psychological subjects at tertiary level.
She is Program Director of the IMAGENDO Study, Endometriosis Group at Robinson Research Institute (RRI). Over 25 years, she has undertaken research and advocacy in women's chronic reproductive health conditions, specifically interactive health literacy, barriers to diagnosis, quality of life and intergenerational effects. Avery consults with politicians and policy makers concerning women's health, attracting media attention for her work.
A/Prof Avery facilitated design and governance of the IMAGENDO AI diagnostic for endometriosis using endometriosis Transvaginal Ultrasound (TVUS) and MRI images from 2019. This won the 2023 Eureka Prize for Innovative Use of Technology; collected >1000 eTVUS and eMRI images with operation notes; 18 published papers, 10 oral presentations at international meetings, 18 posters at international/national meetings, 1 best and 1 runner up best oral; National and international collaborations; Funding from MRFF ($1.99 M) (CIC); NHMRC IDEAS (CIA) ($1.99M); AEA Ignite (CIA).
She has made sustained contributions to mentoring, directly and in leadership roles with local and international groups. Since receiving MRFF funding, Avery has built an international team in the RRI Endometriosis Research Group as Senior Research Fellow under clinical lead, Hull. AI Avery supervises/ co-supervises 8 PhD candidates (1 completion), 4 Master students, and 10 Research Assistants, and has mentored 1 PhD candidate and 2 ECRs.
