Tajikistan's Population Increases 2 Percent in 2026, Hits 10.72M
(MENAFN) Tajikistan's population reached approximately 10.72 million as of January 1, 2026, reflecting a 2 percent increase from the same period a year earlier, the country's Agency on Statistics announced Friday.
The figure was derived from registered births, deaths, and migration data, the agency said.
Regionally, Khatlon was the most densely populated area, home to roughly 3.879 million residents. Sughd region followed with approximately 3.015 million. The districts of republican subordination recorded a combined population of around 2.299 million, while the capital Dushanbe accounted for about 1.292 million. The Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous region had the smallest share at roughly 236,400 residents.
Vital statistics for 2025 underscored the country's robust natural growth: 255,100 births were registered between January and December, against just 34,400 recorded deaths — a net natural increase of more than 220,000 people over the course of the year.
