India, Spain PMs Hold Talks on Key Issues
(MENAFN) Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted back-to-back diplomatic meetings in New Delhi on Wednesday, holding separate talks with the prime ministers of Spain and Finland focused on trade, artificial intelligence, and bilateral cooperation, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who traveled to India to attend the AI Impact Summit 2026, sat down with Modi for wide-ranging discussions aimed at strengthening the India-Spain partnership. Ministry of External Affairs spokesman Randhir Jaiswal announced the meeting on social media platform X.
"Key areas discussed include trade and economy, digital, innovation, health, climate action and education among others," Jaiswal said, adding that Modi "conveyed his appreciation for Spain's consistent support for strong India-EU relations."
Spain ranks as India's sixth-largest trading partner within the European Union, with bilateral goods trade reaching $9.32 billion in 2024.
In a separate engagement, Modi met with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, with the two leaders zeroing in on sustainability, digitalization, and the ethical development of AI.
"They discussed cooperation in sustainability and digitalization, AI research and ethical innovation and how Indian talent can strengthen bilateral collaboration," spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said.
He added that "…the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing responsible, talent-driven AI and harnessing tech-enabled solutions for a sustainable future."
