France Issues Flood Warnings as Severe Weather Approaches
(MENAFN) France was placed on heightened alert Monday due to the risk of flooding, with southwestern areas facing particular concern as intense weather conditions approach.
The national meteorological agency, Meteo-France, declared the highest-level red warning for two departments and issued orange-level alerts for 21 others because of potential flooding and heavy rainfall.
The departments of Gironde and Lot-et-Garonne in the southwest were placed under red alert, signaling a significant threat.
In Paris, water levels have also been climbing. Reports citing city officials indicate that the Seine reached 3.29 meters (10.8 feet) by Monday morning, notably above its typical range of between 1 and 2 meters (3.3 to 6.6 feet).
Meanwhile, forecasters are also warning of substantial snowfall in mountainous regions. Areas around the Pyrenees and the Alps are expected to see heavy snow accumulations, accompanied by an elevated risk of avalanches.
