Shooting at Rhode Island Ice Rink Claims Three Lives
(MENAFN) A shooting at an indoor ice rink in Rhode Island on Monday resulted in three fatalities, including the alleged gunman, authorities confirmed.
Police in Pawtucket reported that the suspect and two other individuals lost their lives, while three additional victims remain hospitalized in critical condition. Addressing reporters, Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves stated: "We have confirmed that the suspect is now deceased. Also, there are two victims that have also been confirmed deceased and then we have three victims that are still at the hospital in critical condition."
Officials identified the shooter as Robert Dorgan, born in 1969. According to the police chief, he was also known by the name Roberta and used the last name Esposito.
The incident unfolded during a high school boys’ hockey game. Earlier in the day, Goncalves described the violence as a "targeted event, that it may be a family dispute."
She also noted the involvement of a bystander who intervened during the chaos. "We can also tell you that a good Samaritan stepped in and interjected in this scene, and that's probably what led to a swift end of this tragic event earlier today," she said.
The shooting took place at Lynch Arena. Governor Dan McKee said he is closely following developments. In a video statement, he expressed sorrow over the tragedy, saying: "As Governor, a parent, and a former coach, my heart breaks for the victims, families, students and everyone impacted by the devastating shooting at Lynch Arena in Pawtucket."
