Witkoff to Attend Russia-Ukraine Peace Dialogue in Geneva
(MENAFN) The upcoming trilateral Russia-US-Ukraine negotiations in Geneva next week will include American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner as part of the US delegation, according to reports citing sources familiar with the matter.
On Friday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the talks are scheduled for February 17–18 in Geneva, noting that no Western European countries will participate. Russia’s delegation will be led by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, who has already taken part in several prior rounds of Russian-Ukrainian discussions.
Ukraine’s national security chief Rustem Umerov stated on Friday that he will once again head Kiev’s delegation. Other participants will include President Vladimir Zelensky’s new chief of staff and former military intelligence chief Kirill Budanov, general staff chief Andrey Gnatov, and several senior officials.
According to reports, Witkoff and Kushner will join the three-way talks in the afternoon after taking part in negotiations with an Iranian delegation earlier that day. Neither envoy attended the last round of talks in the UAE, which Moscow described as “constructive but difficult,” while Witkoff noted that the discussions were yielding “tangible results.”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio commented on the talks at the Munich Security Conference, saying: “The bad news is they've been narrowed to the hardest questions to answer.”
