US Military Has Used AI Model Claude in Maduro Capture Operation

(MENAFN) According to reports, the U.S. military reportedly employed Anthropic’s AI system Claude during an operation aimed at capturing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. The AI was utilized through Anthropic’s collaboration with a contractor that provides technology services to U.S. defense and federal law enforcement agencies.

The sources indicate that after the raid, an Anthropic employee reached out to a counterpart at the contractor to ask about how Claude had been involved in the operation.

This marks the first known instance of an AI developer’s technology being used in a classified Department of Defense mission, though the precise role of the system—capable of functions ranging from analyzing documents to guiding autonomous drones—remains unclear.

A spokesperson for Anthropic declined to confirm whether Claude was employed in the operation but emphasized the company’s policies:

“Any use of Claude—whether in the private sector or across government—is required to comply with our Usage Policies, which govern how Claude can be deployed. We work closely with our partners to ensure compliance.”
