South Korea Reports Additional African Swine Fever Cases
(MENAFN) South Korea confirmed three additional African swine fever (ASF) cases on Friday, bringing the total number of infections so far this year to 14, according to reports.
The new outbreaks were identified at pig farms in Jeongeup in North Jeolla Province, Gimcheon in North Gyeongsang Province, and Hongseong in South Chungcheong Province. The country had recorded its first confirmed case of 2026 on January 16.
To prevent further spread, authorities plan to cull around 10,000 pigs from the affected farms. A 48-hour standstill order has been implemented for pig farms and related facilities in the impacted regions and surrounding areas.
Officials will also conduct inspections at approximately 4,800 pig farms nationwide by the end of February. Authorities have cautioned that the virus could spread further during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday.
