Kremlin Says Upcoming Russia-Ukraine Talks in Geneva to Be Trilateral Only

(MENAFN) The Kremlin stated Friday that the upcoming peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in Geneva, Switzerland, will take place strictly in a trilateral format, with no European representatives involved.

“No, it's only a trilateral format, meaning Russia, America, and Ukraine. There won't be any Europeans there,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, ruling out the participation of the European Union or other international organizations.

The talks, set for Feb. 17-18, are part of a US-facilitated mediation process, with Russia’s delegation to be led by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky.

Earlier on Friday, Peskov confirmed that an agreement had been reached to hold the next round of negotiations “next week,” without providing further details.

This follows two rounds of US-mediated talks held in Abu Dhabi in January and earlier this month, which resulted in the first exchange of war prisoners in five months. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously indicated that the Geneva talks are expected to take place Feb. 17-18.
