US Justice Department Sues Harvard Over Withheld Admissions Data

(MENAFN) The US Department of Justice has initiated a lawsuit against Harvard University, alleging that the institution improperly withheld admissions records required to assess compliance with federal civil rights regulations. The legal move follows a 2023 ruling by the Supreme Court of the United States concerning university admissions practices.

In a statement, Attorney General Pam Bondi emphasized the administration’s position, saying, “Under President Trump’s leadership, this Department of Justice is demanding better from our nation’s educational institutions,”

She added, "Harvard has failed to disclose the data we need to ensure that its admissions are free of discrimination — we will continue fighting to put merit over DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion)" across America."

According to the legal filing, the university is accused of breaching Title VI of the Civil Rights Act by not fully complying with requests for documentation connected to a federal compliance review. The complaint claims that Harvard delayed its responses, did not provide certain relevant materials, and failed to grant prompt access to applicant-specific admissions information.

As of now, the university has not issued a public statement addressing the lawsuit.
