J & K Govt: Security Nod Needed To Reopen Doodpathri, Yousmarg

(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Friday said reopening of tourist destinations Doodpathri and Yousmarg is subject to security clearance and not within the exclusive domain of the Tourism Department.

Replying to a question by MLA Budgam Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi in the Legislative Assembly, the government said the matter has been taken up with the Deputy Commissioner Budgam for appropriate action.

It said decisions regarding reopening of the two destinations involve security considerations beyond the mandate of the Tourism Department.

In response to another query, the government said recent incidents in the tourism sector have adversely impacted tourist footfall in Jammu and Kashmir, affecting the livelihood of stakeholders associated with the sector.

The administration said several measures are being taken to revive tourism in the Union Territory, including promotional campaigns, infrastructure upgradation and confidence-building initiatives.

A series of promotional events and thematic festivals have been organised across the country and within the UT, it said, adding that the ongoing winter season is witnessing increased tourist activity.
