Turkey Warns Israel’s Moves Could Jeopardize Two-State Solution
(MENAFN) Türkiye on Thursday denounced Israel’s recent measures in the occupied Palestinian territories, warning that the moves could jeopardize prospects for a two-state solution.
During the Turkish Defense Ministry’s weekly briefing, spokesperson Zeki Akturk criticized Israel for continuing ceasefire violations even as it entered the second phase of its Gaza peace plan.
Israel has faced international criticism after its Security Cabinet approved measures on Sunday aimed at altering the legal and civil framework in the West Bank to strengthen Israeli control, actions that several global leaders have described as steps toward de facto annexation.
Akturk stated that Ankara condemns Israel’s decisions to impose a new legal and administrative status on the West Bank following widespread destruction and attacks in Gaza.
He emphasized that such measures clearly violate international law and threaten ongoing efforts to achieve a negotiated settlement.
“We once again emphasize that we will continue to support the Palestinian people’s efforts to establish an independent and sovereign state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” Akturk said.
On another matter, Akturk confirmed that Türkiye is closely monitoring the implementation of the January 30 agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). “We continue to closely follow on the ground the implementation of the agreement signed between the Syrian government and the SDF on Jan. 30,” he said.
