Israeli Settlers Block Russian Ambassador’s Field Visit in West Bank
(MENAFN) A planned field visit by Russia’s ambassador to Palestine was disrupted on Monday after illegal Israeli settlers blocked the delegation’s movement in Salfit, a city in the northern occupied West Bank, as stated by reports. The visit, led by Ambassador Gocha Buachidze, was intended to examine the effects of repeated settler attacks in the area.
Salfit governorate has faced ongoing assaults by Israeli forces and illegal settlers, mirroring conditions elsewhere in the West Bank. More than 500 such incidents have been recorded since the beginning of 2025, according to official Palestinian figures. At the same time, Israeli authorities are reviewing proposals to carry out 41 settlement projects on land within the governorate.
According to reports, settlers stopped the convoy carrying Buachidze and Salfit Governor Mustafa Taqatqa, issuing verbal threats that forced the delegation to abandon the tour at the Wadi Al-Matwi site.
Taqatqa condemned the incident, describing it as “an act of terrorism committed by colonists, who are emboldened by the Israeli government.”
He urged “international action to protect both civilians and official delegations in the occupied territory.”
The Russian ambassador voiced “grave concern” about the disruption, emphasizing “the need to respect international laws and ensure the protection of official delegations and Palestinian civilians against any attacks.”
Since the outbreak of Israel’s war on Gaza, violence across the West Bank has escalated sharply.
The surge has included killings, arrests, forced displacement, and the expansion of illegal settlements, leaving at least 1,112 Palestinians dead, around 11,500 injured, and more than 21,000 detained.
