5 Dead, Thousands Displaced As Typhoon Penha Triggers Floods, Landslides In Philippines
A rain-induced landslide as tropical depression 'Basyang' (International Name: Penha) barreled through Northern Mindanao island killed four members of a family while three others were injured, the Philippine Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported.

Basyang wreaked more havoc in nearby Iligan City, with floods inundating communities and mud blanketing a large portion of the city.
Local radio broadcaster Creselyn Baterna Velasco died of cardiac arrest after her apartment was flooded.
Iligan disaster responders scrambled throughout Thursday night to rescue other residents trapped in their houses as the city's Tubod River overflowed.
Typhoon Basyang displaced more than 21,000 residents throughout northeastern and northern Mindanao, with 6,384 families staying inside evacuation centers.
A total of 197 evacuation centers were activated, including 32 used for preemptive evacuations before the storm hit.
Disaster officials said 100,375 people (27,572 families) were impacted, including in the Visayas region, included in the major city of Bacolod in Negros Island.
Power outages were recorded in 28 areas, although electricity had been restored in all affected locations as of Saturday morning.
The Philippines has an average 20 to 25 tropical typhoons in a year, several of which are becoming increasingly destructive due to the effects of climate change.
