Israeli Strikes Kill at Least Sixteen People in Gaza
(MENAFN) At least 16 Palestinians, including women and children, were killed and several others injured early Wednesday after Israeli strikes hit tents housing displaced people, homes, and civilian gatherings across the Gaza Strip, medical sources reported, despite an ongoing ceasefire agreement.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society said two people, including a paramedic, were killed and 12 others wounded when shelling struck the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis in southern Gaza. The wounded were taken to a Red Crescent field hospital. Medical sources later confirmed that the death toll in the area rose to three.
Reports indicate that an Israeli helicopter first targeted a tent sheltering displaced residents in al-Mawasi. When ambulance crews responded to evacuate the injured, an Israeli drone struck the rescue team.
In southern Gaza’s Qizan Rashwan area, outside Israeli-controlled zones, artillery fire killed three people, according to Nasser Hospital.
In Gaza City, heavy shelling in neighborhoods including al-Tuffah and al-Zeitoun killed at least six more Palestinians and injured others. Al-Shifa Hospital received the bodies of two women and a girl after a tent in al-Mahatta Park was hit, while two elderly people and a child were admitted following artillery strikes in al-Zeitoun.
The Israeli military has continued operations in Gaza despite a ceasefire agreement, which the US administration announced had entered its second phase in January.
