Azerbaijan, Armenia Seek to Expand Trade
(MENAFN) Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed on Wednesday to explore further opportunities to boost bilateral trade and economic cooperation during talks between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
A statement from Azerbaijan’s presidency noted that both leaders welcomed progress in implementing the outcomes of their Washington, DC summit last August, which was observed by US President Donald Trump. They emphasized the importance of sustaining the positive momentum in the bilateral normalization process and acknowledged that their societies are starting to experience “real benefits of peace on the ground.”
The statement highlighted satisfaction with the commencement of bilateral trade, including ongoing exports of Azerbaijani oil products to Armenia, as well as the transit of grain and other goods from third countries through Azerbaijani territory. Both sides agreed to continue exploring ways to expand trade and economic cooperation.
The leaders also welcomed reciprocal visits by civil society representatives and stressed the importance of broadening confidence-building measures. Discussions included the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project and other regional connectivity initiatives.
Finally, Aliyev and Pashinyan reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening peace and stability between their countries and agreed to maintain ongoing contacts to support the bilateral normalization process.
