ANC Denounces S. Africa’s Leader for Inviting Israeli Officials

(MENAFN) The African National Congress (ANC) criticized King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo of the AbaThembu people for inviting officials from the Israeli Embassy to visit public hospitals in Eastern Cape, calling the move controversial. The ANC highlighted the tension with its long-standing support for Palestine and opposition to human rights violations.

Following a briefing after the party’s Provincial Executive Committee meeting, ANC leaders including provincial chair Oscar Mabuyane, secretary general Lulama Ngcukayitobi, and spokesperson Yanga Zicina expressed disappointment. Ngcukayitobi said the king’s actions compromise his people and the South African government, calling it a betrayal of the principles fought for during the anti-apartheid struggle. He noted that the king’s father and forefathers sacrificed for the liberation of South Africans and opposed apartheid and the Bantustan regime.

King Dalindyebo defended the invitation, stating he is not legally required to consult the president or provincial authorities. He framed the visit as a chance for collaboration and rejected claims that he was supporting officials responsible for human rights abuses.
