Death Toll from West Java Landslide Rises to 85

(MENAFN) The number of casualties from a landslide in Indonesia’s West Java province has increased to 85 as search and rescue teams enter their 12th day, local outlets reported Wednesday.

Authorities have retrieved additional bodies from the disaster zone, raising the confirmed death toll to 85, according to a broadcaster.

Officials have not released further specifics, and the hunt continues for those who remain missing. On Saturday, a representative from the Bandung Search and Rescue Agency stated that "10 people remained unaccounted for" when the death toll was 70.

The landslide hit a village in West Bandung regency on Jan. 24, engulfing numerous homes in mud and debris.

Rescue operations are still underway in the affected region, which is characterized by challenging terrain.
