Indonesia Landslide Death Toll Hits Eighty-Five

(MENAFN) The number of confirmed fatalities from a devastating landslide in Indonesia's West Java province has climbed to 85, as emergency crews continue their nearly two-week search and rescue mission, media reported on Wednesday.

Recovery teams have extracted additional victims from the debris-filled disaster zone, pushing the death count to 85, the local broadcaster confirmed.

Authorities have yet to release comprehensive information about the latest recoveries, while operations press forward to locate remaining victims. When the death toll reached 70 on Saturday, a Bandung Search and Rescue Agency official stated that 10 individuals were still missing.

The catastrophic landslide buried multiple residences beneath torrents of mud and rubble when it tore through a West Bandung regency village on Jan. 24.

Emergency response teams are navigating challenging topography as they maintain search operations across the devastated zone.
