Kuwait Committed To Relief Effort For Sudan -- Amb.

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Feb 4 (KUNA) -- Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to the United States Sheikha Al-Zain Al-Sabah reaffirmed her country's unwavering commitment to cooperation with international partners to alleviate the suffering of the brotherly people of Sudan.
Kuwait contributed more than USD 40 million to the relief efforts in Sudan in the fiscal year 2025-2026, she told KUNA on Tuesday.
Sheikha Al-Zain noted that Kuwait launched humanitarian air and maritime lifelines to deliver critical aid supplies, including medicines and foodstuffs, to the internally displaced people in Sudan.
She made the comments while attending a function organized by Donald Trump peace foundation to lobby for the Sudan Humanitarian Fund (SHF).
The function gathered, inter alia, Senior Advisor to US President on Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs Massad Fares Boulos, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator (OCHA) Tom Fletcher and US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker.
Established in 2006, the SHF is a rapid and flexible funding mechanism supporting national and international NGOs and UN agencies, to respond to the most pressing or critical emergencies in a fast-changing environment.
Under the leadership of the Humanitarian Coordinator (HC) for Sudan, the SHF supports the timely allocation and disbursement of donor resources to the most critical humanitarian needs defined in the Sudan Humanitarian Needs Response Plan. (end)
