Turkey Affirms Support for Measures Promoting Peace, Stability in Syria
(MENAFN) President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday affirmed Türkiye’s support for measures that promote peace and stability in Syria while safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity and political unity, following a Cabinet meeting in Ankara.
“For us, any step that contributes to peace and stability in Syria and that guarantees Syria’s territorial integrity and political unity is reasonable and acceptable,” Erdogan said in a national address.
The Turkish president described recent agreements as opening a new chapter for the Syrian people, warning that any attempt to undermine these efforts “will be crushed under it.” He added that Türkiye sincerely wishes for Syria to restore domestic peace as soon as possible and reiterated Ankara’s commitment to peace, stability, reconciliation, and solidarity across the region.
Erdogan emphasized that conflicts beyond Türkiye’s borders directly affect national security and stressed the importance of resolving the Syrian crisis on the basis of “one army, one state, and one Syria.” He pledged that Türkiye will stand firmly against those who fuel conflict, invest in tension, and disregard human life.
The remarks follow the announcement on January 30 that Syrian Interior Ministry forces would enter Hasakah under a ceasefire and expanded integration agreement with the YPG. The deal includes the integration of public institutions previously controlled by the YPG into the Damascus government, with current employees being absorbed into the state payroll. No further details have yet been provided regarding the Interior Ministry forces’ exact mission or the duration of their presence in Hasakah.
