Erdogan Signals Support for Advancing Peace in Syria
(MENAFN) Türkiye is open to any initiative that advances calm and security in Syria while safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity and political cohesion, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated on Monday after a Cabinet session held in Ankara.
Reiterating Ankara’s stance in his nationwide address, Erdoğan said: "For us, any step that contributes to peace and stability in Syria and that guarantees Syria’s territorial integrity and political unity is reasonable and acceptable," emphasizing Türkiye’s consistent approach toward its southern neighbor.
The Turkish leader remarked that recent accords have ushered in a fresh phase for Syrians, cautioning that any attempt to sabotage this progress would ultimately be overwhelmed by its own actions.
Expressing goodwill, Erdoğan added: "As Türkiye, we sincerely want our neighbor Syria to restore domestic peace as soon as possible," underscoring the importance Ankara places on stability next door.
He further stressed that the Turkish government backs harmony, reconciliation, stability, and cooperation among communities throughout the broader region.
Pointing to regional interconnectedness, the president warned that instability beyond Türkiye’s frontiers directly affects national security, noting that ongoing violence or warfare nearby prevents the country from feeling truly safe.
Erdoğan also highlighted that resolving the Syrian crisis requires adherence to the principle of "one army, one state, and one Syria," framing it as a foundation for lasting order.
Reaffirming Türkiye’s position against profiteers of violence, he declared: "Türkiye will stand firmly against merchants of blood who fuel conflict, invest in tension, and disregard human life," signaling a hard line against those perpetuating unrest.
Meanwhile, on Jan. 30, authorities announced that Syrian Interior Ministry units would deploy to the city of Hasakah under a ceasefire and expanded integration arrangement concluded between Damascus and the YPG terror group.
