Germany Busts Network Illegally Supplying Russian Defense Companies
(MENAFN) German authorities on Monday arrested five suspects in a major operation targeting a network accused of illegally supplying goods to Russian defense companies in breach of EU sanctions, according to reports.
The Federal Prosecutor’s Office said the arrests included a German-Ukrainian national, two German nationals, and a German-Russian national, all detained under warrants issued by the investigating judge of the Federal Court of Justice. A second German-Russian national was provisionally detained.
Prosecutors stated that the suspects operated through a company based in Lübeck, northern Germany, and used dummy buyers both within and outside the European Union to hide their activities.
The network allegedly facilitated thousands of shipments to Russia, with the total value of illicit transactions reaching at least €30 million ($36 million). The goods were reportedly delivered to a minimum of 24 Russian defense companies.
