Russian Strikes Cause Power Outages Across Multiple Ukrainian Regions

(MENAFN) Ukraine reported on Monday that overnight Russian attacks on energy infrastructure caused widespread power outages across several regions, according to reports.

The country’s power grid operator, Ukrenergo, said in a statement on Telegram that the strikes disrupted electricity supply in Cherkasy, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions. The operator noted that restoration work is ongoing “wherever the security situation currently allows.” Increased energy consumption due to a sharp drop in temperatures and reduced restrictions in some areas has added pressure to the system.

“Due to difficult weather conditions, 162 settlements in three regions, namely Odesa, Mykolaiv and Kirovohrad, were completely or partially de-energized in the morning,” the statement said, adding that repair teams are actively working to restore damaged power lines.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on a US-based social media platform that new Russian attacks targeted energy facilities in frontline and border areas over the past day.

He clarified that, following a coordination call on Ukraine’s situation, there were no direct strikes on energy infrastructure, but Russian forces concentrated on logistics, particularly railway facilities.

"In particular, there were strikes in the Dnipro region and in Zaporizhzhia, specifically targeting railway facilities,” Zelenskyy said.
