Thousands of Protesters Gather in Paris in Support of Police
(MENAFN) Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of Paris on Saturday in a nationwide protest organized by the Alliance Police Nationale union, calling for stronger support for law enforcement, better working conditions, and increased resources.
Organizers estimated that between 15,000 and 20,000 people participated in the Paris march, which proceeded from Place de la Bastille to Place de la Nation. Protesters carried a banner reading: “Citizens with the police, stop insecurity, stop impunity.”
The Paris demonstration was part of coordinated rallies held in around 20 cities across France, including Marseille, Nice, Lille, and Bordeaux, as well as several overseas territories.
Among the participants was Cyril Benoit, zonal secretary of the SNIPAT union, which represents administrative, technical, and scientific staff within the national police.
Benoit said the protest was not about higher salaries but about staffing and basic necessities.
He noted that many police stations lack essential facilities such as working toilets, showers, changing rooms, proper uniforms, and functional printers. He also pointed to aging vehicles and mobility problems, stressing the need for recognition, respect, and adequate resources to carry out police duties.
He added that staff shortages affect both daytime and nighttime operations, with some patrols reduced due to a lack of personnel.
