US Approves Military Sales to Israel Amid Iran Tensions
(MENAFN) The United States has greenlighted over $6.5 billion in potential new military sales to Israel as tensions with Iran continue to escalate, according to officials in Washington.
In two distinct statements released on Friday by the Pentagon and State Department, the package was detailed to include $1.98 billion worth of light tactical vehicles, AH-64E Apache helicopters priced at $3.8 billion, and an additional $740 million agreement for armored personnel carrier power packs.
The primary contractors for these deals are AM General, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin.
“The proposed sale will enhance Israel’s capability to meet current and future threats by improving its ability to defend Israel’s borders,” the Pentagon stated, emphasizing that the measure “will not alter the basic military balance in the region.”
The decision to approve the arms deal comes after Israeli media outlets reported on Friday that military authorities largely confirmed the casualty figures provided by Gaza officials, which placed Palestinian deaths at around 70,000. Since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas conflict in 2023, Israel has faced accusations of committing multiple war crimes in the Palestinian territory and obstructing humanitarian aid.
This approval also follows mounting friction between the United States and Iran, with US President Donald Trump leaving open the possibility of a military response after pledging support for demonstrators in the Islamic Republic.
