Trump Directs DHS to Avoid Protests in Democrat-Led Cities
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has directed the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to refrain from intervening in protests occurring in cities governed by Democrats, as large-scale demonstrations against US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continue across the nation.
The so-called “National Shutdown” was announced on Friday, with organizers encouraging Americans to refrain from working, attending school, or shopping in a coordinated strike intended to compel the government to halt immigration raids.
In Los Angeles, the protest intensified into confrontations with law enforcement and federal personnel, with demonstrators occupying an ICE facility.
A comparable situation occurred in Eugene, Oregon, where activists entered a federal building and refused to depart.
On Saturday, Trump posted on Truth Social that he had “instructed Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, that under no circumstances are we going to participate in various poorly run Democrat Cities with regard to their Protests and/or Riots unless, and until, they ask us for help.”
He further stated, “We will, however, guard, and very powerfully so, any and all Federal Buildings that are being attacked… I have instructed ICE and/or Border Patrol to be very forceful in this protection of Federal Government Property.”
Trump emphasized that safeguarding both local and federal properties is primarily the responsibility of state authorities, asserting that federal forces would intervene only as a supportive measure.
