Thailand Starts Early Parliamentary Election Voting


(MENAFN) Early voting for Thailand’s parliamentary elections commenced at 8 a.m. local time (0100 GMT) on Sunday.

Approximately 2 million citizens who are unable to cast their ballots on the official polling day, scheduled for Feb. 8, are eligible to participate in the advance voting process.

According to a media outlet, the Election Commission reported that 2.41 million people had registered for early voting, which is scheduled to conclude at 5 p.m. local time (1000 GMT).

In total, Thailand has 52.92 million registered voters eligible to take part in the upcoming elections.

Officials established 424 polling locations for voters casting ballots outside their home constituencies and 421 stations for early voters within their own districts in Bangkok and other provinces.

An additional 22 polling centers across 18 provinces were arranged specifically for elderly voters and individuals with disabilities.

Bangkok led in advance voting registrations, with a total of 844,672 participants.

More than 90 candidates representing 57 political parties are contending for 500 seats in the House of Representatives during the Feb. 8 elections.
