Thailand Kicks Off Early Voting Ahead of Parliamentary Elections
(MENAFN) Thailand begins early voting on Sunday ahead of its general elections scheduled for Feb. 8, with polling stations opening at 8 a.m. local time.
Advance voting is available to around 2 million eligible citizens who will be unable to cast ballots on the official election day. According to election authorities, 2.41 million voters registered to take part in early voting, which is set to run until 5 p.m., as stated by reports.
In total, Thailand has 52.92 million registered voters nationwide.
To accommodate advance voters, officials established 424 polling centers for those voting outside their home constituencies, along with 421 locations for voters casting early ballots within their own districts across Bangkok and other provinces.
Authorities also designated 22 additional polling stations in 18 provinces specifically for elderly voters and people with disabilities.
The capital recorded the highest number of advance voting registrations, with 844,672 voters signing up.
The Feb. 8 elections will see more than 90 candidates from 57 political parties contesting 500 seats in the House of Representatives.
