China Sends Algeria's Remote Sensing Satellite into Orbit
(MENAFN) An Algerian satellite achieved successful orbit Saturday following its launch from northwestern China, state media confirmed.
The remote sensing spacecraft departed from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center atop a Long March-2C carrier rocket, media reported.
Liftoff occurred at 12:01 p.m. local time (0401GMT), with the AlSat-3B satellite reaching its planned orbital position without incident.
Manufactured by the China Academy of Space Technology under the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), the satellite will serve primary functions in land management planning, disaster forecasting, and emergency response operations.
Saturday's deployment advances Algeria's comprehensive remote sensing satellite infrastructure program—a collaborative initiative between China Great Wall Industry Corporation, a CASC subsidiary, and the Algerian Space Agency.
A July 2023 agreement established the framework for delivering two optical remote sensing satellites—AlSat-3B and AlSat-3A—to Algeria.
AlSat-3A reached orbit on January 15, accompanied by ground control infrastructure, personnel training programs, and technical assistance services.
The mission represents the 629th flight in China's Long March rocket series.
