Albanian Premier Defends Israel in Knesset

(MENAFN) Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama defended Israel from any accountability during a speech in the Knesset, attributing the humanitarian disaster in Gaza solely to Palestinian group Hamas while overlooking the deaths of over 71,000 Palestinians amid Israel’s ongoing military campaign.

Speaking to Israel’s legislative body on Tuesday, Rama began by extending warm regards to Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and underscored Albania’s enduring support for the Jewish community.

Rama recounted Albania’s historical role in assisting Jews, noting that the nation and its citizens, who he claimed “stood as few others did for the Jewish people,” deserve acknowledgment from Israel.

He also mentioned the honor of receiving the Presidential Medal of Honour from President Isaac Herzog, whom Rama described as a “noble and faithful friend of Albania.”

Nevertheless, Albanian experts told a news agency that Rama’s remarks were “one sided,” placing Albania in a position of siding with Israel in the conflict in Gaza.

Albanian political analyst Marlind Laci commented on the address, emphasizing that Rama’s administration “has no clear plan” and is guided more by the Prime Minister’s “personal instinct” than by the strategic interests of Albania.
