Sudanese Medics Report Widespread Malnutrition in Dilling After RSF Siege

(MENAFN) A Sudanese medical group on Wednesday reported more than 1,300 cases of malnutrition in the city of Dilling, South Kordofan, after a prolonged siege by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) left residents facing severe shortages of food and medical supplies.

Dilling recently emerged from an RSF encirclement that lasted over two years, creating “a critical humanitarian and health situation,” the Sudan Doctors Network said in a statement. The report comes days after Sudanese army forces entered the city, which had been surrounded since January 2024 by the RSF and their ally, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N).

The network warned that Dilling is experiencing an acute shortage of medical staff, severe scarcity of food and medical supplies, and a sharp deterioration in public health conditions. The crisis has resulted in a significant rise in malnutrition cases, especially among children, pregnant women, and the elderly. Most of the 1,300 reported cases involve children, the statement said, and the group cautioned that without immediate intervention, the situation could lead to severe health complications and fatalities.

The network called on international and regional organizations, UN agencies, and humanitarian actors to organize an urgent airlift to deliver food. It also urged an end to attacks on medical facilities and stressed the importance of protecting health workers and keeping the health sector out of the conflict.
