Measles Cases Surge Past 780 in U.S. South Carolina

(MENAFN) South Carolina has documented 789 measles infections since October during the current epidemic, the state's Department of Public Health announced Tuesday.

The state has confirmed at least 89 fresh measles diagnoses within the last five days alone. Currently, 557 individuals remain under quarantine while 20 are in isolation, the department reported.

Numerous elementary, middle and high schools have students in quarantine, the department said.

Across the nation, 416 confirmed measles cases have been reported in 2026 as of Jan. 22, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The United States reported 2,255 confirmed measles cases in 2025, the highest annual total since 1992.

Medical officials emphasized that immunization represents the most effective method to halt measles transmission and end the ongoing outbreak.
