Nepal Disasters Kill Three Children, 46 Adults in One Month

(MENAFN) Forty-nine people—including three children—perished across Nepal in a devastating month-long series of natural and human-caused catastrophes, authorities confirmed Wednesday.

Between mid-December and mid-January, the nation experienced 614 separate disaster events ranging from blazes and lightning strikes to wildlife attacks, leaving 231 individuals wounded, according to official police documentation. The deadly incidents also claimed 134 livestock.

Property destruction reached catastrophic levels, with 58 residences and 51 storage structures obliterated, generating economic damages totaling 170.41 million Nepali rupees—approximately 1.17 million U.S. dollars—the law enforcement report revealed.

Koshi Province emerged as the hardest-hit region, logging 170 separate incidents, while Madhesh followed closely with 152 recorded events, authorities stated.

The grim statistics underscore a deadly period for the Himalayan nation as multiple disaster categories converged simultaneously across provincial boundaries.
